Report on The Babylonians



Babylon means gate of god was the most high tech city built at its time. It was located on the banks of Euphrates now called eastern Iraq. 9in 2200 BC is the first recorded a Babylonian dynasty. Famous king Hammurabi made taxes and minimum wages he also gave rights to slaves and made the first laws of code ever to be found in human history. After Hammurabi died Babylon was invaded by the Assyrians and burned it to the ground. 11 years later a Babylonian defeated the Assyrians and became king. Babylon achieved its greatest glory under the reign of Nabopolassur II. Nabopolassur II rebuilt the most splendid city in the world. The city was protected by a Babylon wall bade of bricks and blue glazed tiles. To enter the city of Babylon you would have to pass the Ishtar gate which was 50 feet high. They built a 7 story high temple and the famous hanging gardens on top of their pyramid. They were a mixed race with faces from all around the world.  In their education temples boys were taught reading writing and math. Girls were trained in dance and music. The Babylonians traded with other cultures for timber stone and metal. They also used silver coins as money for exchange. They developed a lunar calendar of 12 months and 29-30 days.
